Hyphen Jones, a collection of some of the cartoons I did for PR Week in the early ’90′s

boozy-small-copyA character called Hyphen Jones was born in 1990, and appeared in Haymarket’s PR Week every week for over 2 years. I created him and wrote gags under the dangerous-sounding pseudonym Charlie Allen and a very talented artist named Julian Sharp did the drawings.

Hyphen’s acerbic eye did not please everyone in the PR business, though some of his situations were uncomfortably close to the truth. Lynn Franks who, ironically, is alleged to have been the model of Ab-Fab’s Edina Monsoon was one who, it was said, considered he was bringing the PR business into disrepute.

Poor old Hyphen. He always was a loser and a change of editors finally killed him off before he could level further (in my view, much needed) barbs aimed at the spin industry.
